The National Conference on Himachal Buddhist Conclave on 27 & 28th February 2021, Venue: Tourism Complex, Shimla (Issues, Interactions & Initiatives)- Cultural Preservation and Identity: Challenges and Way forward in the 21st Century in collaboration with Int'l Buddhist Confederation (IBC), Delhi and Kinnaur-Lahoul-Spiti Boudh Sewa Sangh, Shimla.

The program was inaugurated by Ven. Dr Dhammapiya, SG, IBC in presence of Ven. Lama Chosphel Zotpa, Online joined by President IHCNBT Ven. Lochen Tulku Rinpoche, Prof. VS Negi, President Kinnaur Lahoul Spitti Boudh Sewa Sangh, Sh. Maling Gombu, Secretary, Indian Himalayan Council of Nalanda Buddhist Tradition (IHCNBT), Sh. Hukum Chand Negi, IRS (Retd,) and the conference was attended by 120 delegates and graced by all the eminent Khenpo, Nuns (Anis) and Lamas/monks from all traditions of Mahayana Buddhism and Social worker, Scholars and Laity from Himachal Pradesh places of Kinnaur, Lahoul, Spiti, Pangi and Paldar of Jammu & Kashmir.

The session on “Indian Himalayan Buddhist Communities-Cultural Preservation and Identity- Challenges and Way forward in 21st Century”, chaired by Geshe Champa Tenzin, and speakers were Sh. Senpo Pema, Brig. (retd.) TS Negi, Ven. Sange Guduk, Ven. Nawang Tender, Acharya Phurbu Tenzin

The next session on the Challenges before the Buddhist communities and Sangha in the Himalayan region was chaired by Khenpo Pema and speakers were Geshe Lobsang Jigme, Geshe Lobsang Delek, Geshe Tenzing Nyima, Geshe Govind and Lama Bhitu

The next session was on the representation to the Board of Sangha and role of INCNBT chaired by Ven. Lama Chosphel Zotpa, former VC, NCSCST, GOI and speaker Sh. Maling Gombu, Secy., IHCNBT. The speaker told in detail the object of IHCNBT and the need for Indian National Sangha body and its work for the Himalayan region and also that its strategic importance for the country and national integration and nationalism. The nominations came from all the traditions.

The next session was on History, and protection of Cultural tradition and Identity chaired by Geshe Lobsang Jigme and speakers were Sh. Sundar Singh Khampa, Sh. Tsering Norbu, Amchi Jigme Norbu, Dr. Tenzin Norbu and Lama Amchi Norbu. The speakers focused on the cultural heritage in the Himachal and also in Paldar, J & K wherein this region with around population of twenty thousand only is left in the J&K after Ladakh became a UT and J&K also an UT.

Chaired by Prof VS Negi and paper presentation Research scholar, JNU Delhi, Miss Deepika, Miss Chehtana from Tripura and Miss Padma Thakur form Himachal University. The spoke on the aspects of Art, folk lore and history of Buddhism in Himachal Pradesh. Also a session on Buddhist Youth empowerment, a talk delivered by Dr. Ghulshan Sharma, Director General, Int'l Chamber of Service Industry, Delhi through Webinar Zoom conference wherein he spoke of how the Buddhist youth from the Himalayan region should take short term courses on management of Buddhist pilgrimage, Sites, hospitality, skill development and to become entrepreneurs and job provider.

The last session was on The Buddhist Cultural heritage sites, Holy sites and Monuments in Himachal Pradesh and the session was chaired by Brig (retd.) TS Negi and speaker was Prof VS Negi and Dr Prabhu Lal. The speakers spoke about the Buddhist heritage sites and monuments and need to take up the protection and conservation.

The program ended with Prayer for World Peace and well being and followed by National Antham.
