The National Conference on “Sikkim-North Bengal Buddhist Conclave” was held on 22nd & 23rd February 2021, Venue: Manan Kendra, Gangtok, Sikkim (Issues, Interactions & Initiatives)- Cultural Preservation and Identity: Challenges and Way forward in the 21st Century in collaboration with Int'l Buddhist Confederation (IBC), Delhi.
The Conclave was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim Sh.Prem Singh Tamang in presence of revered Rinpoches, Monks, Nuns and Hon'ble Minister for RD, Cooperation & Ecclesiastical dept. Sh. Sonam Lama Bhutia, Secretary General, IBC Dr Dhammapiya, Director General IBC Sh. Shakti Sinha and attended by 500 delegates and graced by all the eminent Rinpoches, Khenpo, Nuns (Anis) and Lamas/monks from all traditions of Mahayana Buddhism and Social worker, Scholars and Laity from North Bengal areas of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Siliguri, Salugara and Dwar areas and Sikkim.
The Conclave started with Lighting of lamp by the Chief Guest Sh. PS Tamang, Hon'ble Chief Minister, Rinpoches, Dr.Dhammapiya, Secretary General, Sh.Shakti Sinhna, DG, IBC and Mangalacharan in Sanskrit and Bhoti by monks of SIHNS Sheda Monastery, Sikkim and National Antham.
The Conclave cum meeting had deliberations and speakers on the topic of “Indian Himalayan Buddhist Communities-Cultural Preservation and Identity-Challenges and Way forward in 21st Century” discussed and deliberated on the representation to the Board of Sangha of IHCNBT from all the Mahayana traditions in Sikkim and North Bengal areas of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Siliguri.
The speakers were Dr.Tsewang Gyatso Bhutia, Mr.Sangay Tamang, Chairman, Tamang Board, Govt. West Bengal, Mr.Khangendra Gurung, Chairman, Gurung Board, West Bengal, Khenpo Dr.Sonam Bhutia, Acharya Phigu Tshering Bhutia, Dr.Jigmee Wangchuk, Mr.C.L. Denzongpa, IRS (Retd.), Advisor (Economics) to HCM, The House after deliberations nominated the Sangha Members of IHCNBT from all traditions including the Nuns representation from Sikkim.
